La Timone owns the newest radiosurgery equipment : the ICON Gamma Knife

The ICON Leksell Gamma Knife, the most advanced equipment in wireless radiosurgery, was installed for the first time in the world at Marseille University Hospital of La Timone. The staff led by Pr Jean REGIS has been an international leader in the field.

The Gamma Knife is a tool allowing to operate within the brain without opening up the cranium, without a general anesthesia, which considerably reduces the risk of complications and improves the patient’s comfort.

The installation of the ICON Leksell Gamma Knife, developed by the Swedish team of Elekta Instrument, improves the quality, safety and speed of care and broadens indications for patients throughout France and abroad.

It widens and increases the variety of treatments provided by the Perfexion Gamma Knife installed at La Timone in 2006, as a world first too.

23 years after its creation, the Timone Gamma Knife Center is the first in the world to use this best performing device, offering patients unmatched quality and speed of treatment.

Epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, facial neuralgia, brain metastases, severe tremors, acoustic neurinomas, meningiomas, pituitary adenomas ... the indications of Gamma Knife radiosurgery are more and more numerous.
